Reduction of weld sizes


This project deals with the optimization of welds (fillet welds) of joints without overlapping made of rectangular and circular hollow sections.

The optimized design equations are used to create diagrams that allow simple and effective weld design. Diagrams for joints made of circular hollow sections (CHS) and rectangular hollow sections (RHS) with steel grades ranging from S235 to S690 are included in the CIDECT final report for brace angles from 30° to 90°.

The project had been funded by CIDECT and was executed by the Competence Center for Tubes and Hollow Sections (CCTH).

Competence Center

Thanks to the many years of experience of our employees and the active participation in standardization and international committees, we have been able to build up solid and extensive competences in hollow profile applications.


Engineering services

Our services include verification of stability, fatigue design, dimensioning and optimization of steel structures including offshore constructions. We carry out investigations to clarify damages and residual life and prepare damage analyzes and expert opinions.
