This development project, carried out jointly by KoRoH, the Technical University of Munich, the University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich, and H. Wetter AG, Stetten, Switzerland, was supported by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action on the basis of a decision by the German Bundestag under the sign ZF4650101.

The goal of this R&D project was the development of a flexible and expandable mobile system to protect participants of events in public places against attacks by motor vehicles.

The safety system has a modular structure and can therefore be used and expanded flexibly. The structure is created by plugging individual modules into each other and connecting the resulting module groups. By lining up the individual module groups, a barrier of variable length is built up.

In the event of a vehicle collision, the system causes such extensive damage to the motor vehicle that it is impossible to continue driving.

However, the barrier is easily passable for pedestrians and cyclists and does not represent an obstacle for prams and wheelchair users. It therefore allows easy passage even in the event of panic. Due to its external shape, it does not represent an obstacle and therefore poses no risk of injury to visitors. Safe escape is thus guaranteed. The simple opening of the barrier also allows access for rescue and emergency vehicles.

During the development of the system, care was taken to ensure that the weight of the individual modules was as low as possible, allowing for quick and easy assembly. The advantage for cities, municipalities and organizers is that the system can be easily transported on pallets and installed by two employees, e.g. from the municipal building yard.

The further developed and slightly modified system is protected by law and is now marketed under the name FairGuard.
