Load-bearing capacity and fatigue behavior connections of high strength cast steel and steel hollow sections (TEHOSS)
This development project, which was jointly carried out by KoRoH, Munich University of Applied Sciences, Laboratory for Steel and Lightweight Structures and Stahlbau Wegscheid, was funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWI) through the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM).
The aim of this R & D project was to develop a low-weight drawbar system made of high-strength steel tubes and high-strength cast steel with strengths of 770 MPa, which, due to its lightweight design, can be used primarily in fatigue applications such as crane and bridge construction. The use of high strength steels can significantly reduce material thickness, resulting in material and manufacturing savings due to reduced weld thickness and ease of handling.
The focus of the investigations was on the cast connectors, which were optimized by the Friedrich Wilhelms-Hütte, and the steel-cast steel joints, which were analyzed and modified by KoRoH. Based on this, Stahlbau Wegscheid manufactured the test specimens with seamless, hot-rolled hollow sections, which were then experimentally investigated in the Laboratory for Steel and Lightweight Structures.
The main project results are:
• Increased service life through
• Diagrams for the fatigue design
• Confirmation of faultless manufacturability of the connection
• Proof of economic manufacturability
