New trade fair halls C5 and C6, Messe München
The wide-span roof trusses of the two new buildings of the C5 and C6 exhibition halls of the Munich Trade Fair Center are designed as spatial lattice girders made of circular hollow sections. Due to their complex structure and the resulting connection geometries, the determination of the joint bearing capacities on the basis of DIN EN 1993-1-8, ISO 14346 or the design recommendations of CIDECT is not possible.
One of our tasks was the determination of the most unfavorable load combinations for the determination of maximum joint loads with the help of a truss model. Subsequently, the joint utilizations and proofs were provided. The use of finite elements not only proved the highly complex nodes, but also optimized them, thereby avoiding costly reinforcement measures.
