The Lanciau bridge
The Lanciau bridge lies on the route between Montreux and Zweisimmen in the area of responsibility of the Compagnie du Chemin de fer Montreux-Oberland Bernois SA (MOB).
The previous old bridge of Lanciau was replaced by a three-dimensional hollow section truss with an attached concrete trough. The new "Pont du Lanciau" is a narrow-gauge railway bridge with a 1.0 m wide lane and 1 m wide pedestrian bridges on both sides of the track. The width of the bridge without pedestrian bridges is 4.44 m. The height of the construction (without concrete trough) varies between 2.15 m at the abutments and 4.105 m at the center of the span. The new bridge uses the abutments of the old bridge.
The design and the structural analysis of the new Pont du Lanciau is carried out by T ingénierie sa - ingénieurs civils (T-ING), Geneve. The bridge is manufactured by SOTTAS SA - Constructions métalliques (SOTTAS), Bulle.
Our task was to control and verify the fatigue design of the entire steel structure and related procedures. The client was MOB. The main part of our calculations, especially in the case of the multiplanar double-K joints, was carried out on the basis of finite element analyzes.
